The provision of safe drinking water is a priority requirement for all outdoor use. Contaminated water is a major source of debilitating diseases, particularly diarrhoea and hepatitis. Over two thirds of the world's water supply is not fit for human consumption. The Pre-Mac Personal Water Purifier Model PWP has been specifically designed to exacting standards and produces safe drinking water from sources in which high levels of bacterial, viral and parasitic contamination are present. The Model PWP will also remove organic matter which exists in most natural water sources, improving taste, smell and appearance of the water. The Model  PWP all the treatment necessary to produce water that is safe and pleasant to drink. Compact and easy to use, it will purify 1,000 litres of water before replacement.   Purification validity Extensive testing was carried out during development of the Model PWP by the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. These have shown total elimination of E. coli, the primary pathogen in contaminated water, at levels of up to 109 per litre. These results were achieved using both dechlorinated tap water and raw water of an aggressive nature. Tests have also been carried out against the commonly occurring bacteria Vibrio cholerae, Salmonella typhimurium, Shigella boydii and Campylobacter which in all cases showed total elimination of levels up to 1011 per litre. Tests by the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine have also proved the Model PWP to be highly effective in killing viruses at very high levels, achieving reductions in excess of 99.9%. Additionally viral tests have been carried out by Thames Water Authority at levels significantly in excess of those which would be found in water polluted with raw sewage. The Model PWP achieved a zero virus count in the design time of 2 minutes - a reduction of 99.99%.
