Water is an essential requirement for human survival and the provision of safe drinking water is of particular importance to individual travellers, Emergency Relief and Aid personnel. Waterborne diseases will render the most highly trained and well equipped
person or group ineffective and the cost of subsequent hospitalisation is significant.
The loss of health is a particular problem in remote
locations where normal supply systems cannot operate. Water is a heavy,
bulky item to transport any distance so that the availability of
effective on-site treatment of water is therefore essential and can be a
major factor in the success or failure of field expeditions |
Purification on naturally occuring water sources requires both filtration and disinfection. Filtration is necessary to remove organic matter that will otherwise reduce the efficiency of subsequent disinfection and to clean the water in terms of appearance, taste and odour. Disinfection to eliminate pathogenic organisms (bacteria, viruses and cysts) is essential to provide water which is safe for human consumption.
The effectiveness of Pre-Mac water purifiers has been proven in extensive laboratory tests and military field trials. They are in service with Aid and Charity Organisations, International Rescue and Emergency Response Teams, as well as Armed Forces throughout the world.
